Why is Alpine (the electronics company) so childish?

Why do they refuse to support their OEM radios? Well, I can defintiely see why BMW uses Alpine in their cars!

Repair facilities like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! have trouble repairing OEM Apline radios for this reason.

Most newer BMW stereos today communicate with the computers in the car. We presently are unable to bench test these car stereos.

Unfortunately typical of any OEM electronics. I can't get support for a western digital hard drive from WD if it came with a Dell computer. I'm sure Dell got a great deal on the 150,000,000 of them that they bought, in exchange for promising that WD wouldn't have to support any of them.

That shouldn't be allowed, either.

Radios should only be allowed to be radios.

96-98 Civics have this problem; if you install an aftermarket radio, you lose the keyless entry and dome light because they're tied into the radio. Luckily they fixed it for 99. But I REALLY hate shit like that.

But I guess BMW needs it for their fake engine noises haha

Yeah, but other suppliers have NO PROBLEM supporting them.

For example, the 8th-gen Civic was available with Alpine and Clarion radios. They can repair the Clarion unit with no problem. Clarion can support their shit, so why can't Alpine?

NO EXCUSES

The "bolding" is from the website, not from me.... but the point remains - almost every component is highly integrated into the electronics system of a modern car, and the radio/audio system is no different. Multiplexing of signals to saving wires means that that messing with one aspect of the total system can have unanticipated results. For example, my 2011 328i was in a parking lot accident ( a guy backed into me) and the bumper cover had to be replaced. When the body shop replaced the cover, they apparently disconnected a wire under the bumper cover which blew a fuse which killed the radio, the wipers, and a couple other things. Had to go to the dealer where they charged the body shop $175 to diagnose the problem and replace the fuse.

The site and the facility I mentioned only deals with the internals of the radio itself, only parts that are inside the head unit, speakers, and amps.

And BMW isn't the only automaker that does this, nor does only Alpine make such systems, and those other companies can provide the support, so why not Alpine?

My buddy had an S4 for a while. He got a bad ass system put in, the Audi decided it didn't like the new head unit and put the tranny in limp home mode. The best part about it was that we were on a road trip to Arizona to visit a friend stuck on the interstate in fourth gear. Fucking shitty I tell you. The Audi dealer was like "we know nothing about that" and then his regular mechanic was all like "those people are tools, drop by and I'll fix it in 10 minutes, the idiots installing the system did it wrong. . ." A week later the tranny shit its self and puked all of its fluid over the freeway and the S4 was sold off. It was a nice car for the month it worked correctly. . .
